France Télévisions
France Télévisions is currently funded by the French Treasury and the revenue from commercial advertising. When advertising after 20:00 was abolished on France Télévisions in 2009, the French government initially planned to extend the ban to all daytime advertising. However, this measure was never implemented.
In September 2010, Culture Minister Frédéric Mitterrand confirmed a two-year moratorium on the planned removal of daytime advertising, postponing the ban on commercials between 06:00 and 20:00 until at least 2014. As a result, France Télévisions continued to broadcast advertising during daytime hours, and the full abolition of advertising on public television was effectively abandoned.
France Télévisions is a supporter of the Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) initiative that is promoting and establishing an open European standard for hybrid set-top boxes for the reception of broadcast TV and broadband multimedia applications with a single user interface, and has selected HbbTV for its interactive news, sports and weather service, and plans to add catch-up TV and social media sharing capability.
