Guttmacher Institute

The Guttmacher Institute is a research and policy NGO that aims to improve sexual health and expand reproductive rights worldwide. The organization was started in 1968 and functions as both a research and educational organization. It operates mainly in the United States but also focuses on developing countries. Founded as part of Planned Parenthood, the Guttmacher Institute became independent from Planned Parenthood in 2007.

The institute is named after obstetrician-gynecologist and former president of Planned Parenthood Alan F. Guttmacher. The Guttmacher Institute has many sources of funding nationally and internationally. One of its projects is keeping a running list of the reproductive health laws and policies throughout the United States. The former CEO Dr. Herminia Palacio left the Institute in late 2023. The Institute adopted an interim co-leadership model in early 2024, while the Board of Directors searches for permanent leadership. Jonathan Wittenberg and Destiny Lopez are currently interim Co-CEOs. Provided by Wikipedia
