Elizabeth Monroe

Monroe depicted in an early 19th century portrait Elizabeth Monroe (''née'' Kortright; June 30, 1768 – September 23, 1830) was the first lady of the United States from 1817 to 1825, as the wife of James Monroe, fifth president of the United States. Due to the fragile condition of Monroe's health, many of her duties as the official White House hostess were assumed by her eldest daughter, Eliza Monroe Hay. Provided by Wikipedia
